Bloc Party es un grupo de Art-Rock/Post-Punk, procedente del sur de Londres, en el Reino Unido.

Bloc Party se formó en 1998 cuando el vocalista y guitarrista Kele Okereke conoció en una edición del festival de música de Reading al que sería guitarrista del grupo Russell Lissack. Este último conocía a los otros dos componentes, Gordon Moakes (bajista) y Matt Tong (batería). Russell contactó con Gordon y Matt por teléfono y se materializó la idea.

Más tarde, Kele se encargó de enviar una pequeña maqueta al grupo escocés Franz Ferdinand, quienes les invitaron a tocar en una fiesta de su discográfica.

No siempre se han llamado como ahora: comenzaron con el nombre de "Angel Rage", se transformaron en "Union", y después "Superheros of BMX", y, a finales de 2003 tomaron el nombre de "Bloc Party".
