Slipknot es un grupo de Nu Metal, formado en Des Moines, en el estado de Iowa, Estados Unidos, caracterizados por el hecho de que cada uno de los integrantes usa una máscara. La banda ha tenido muchos cambios de integrantes, pero desde el año 1999, mantienen su formación: Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, James Root, Craig Jones, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomson y Corey Taylor.

Slipknot utiliza tres tipos de guitarras (principal, ritmica y bajo), dos percusionistas, además de la batería, y la electrónica (samplers y turntables). El sonido de la banda ha sido descrito como "una máquina trilladora devorando un grupo de tambores militares." La banda también incorpora diversos estilos vocales, por lo general usan la voz gutural, el canto melodico y hasta el rapeo, mientras que las letras en general tienen un tono agresivo. Las influencias de la banda incluyen el Death Metal, asi como el Thrash Metal, el Blues y hasta el Hip Hop.
